Public Health

Overarching strategic priority to address health determinants and make all European people healthier

A revitalized public health is at the heart of Health 2030 focusing on health promotion and disease prevention.

Good governance for health, with public health as the driving force for policy coherence will position health at the centre of all policies. Health in All Policies with whole-of-government and whole-of society approaches will aim to address all determinants of health in a holistic way.

I will promote for well-resourced public health systems, supported by strong legislation, institutional structures and skilled workforce.

Universal Health Coverage

People-centered,
accessible and
integrated quality
health services
and financial
protection for all

Progress towards Universal Health Coverage (UHC) and financial protection for everyone will be central to Health 2030, with strong health promotion and prevention at its core.

People-centered, integrated, safe and culturally sensitive primary health care services will be the cornerstone towards achieving UHC.

I will support countries in their health system transformation anticipating and preparing for emerging challenges towards quality, efficiency and innovation.

Health emergencies & antimicrobial resistance

Accelerated preparedness linked with public health functions and health systems to protect people from health emergencies

Health 2030 will better protect people from all-hazard health emergencies, with multi sectoral preparedness at its core and strong linkages with public health functions and health systems.

I will accelerate implementation of International Health Regulations (IHR) and strengthening of core capacities.

Antimicrobial resistance will be a priority and I will reinforce health stewardship across “One Health” approach.

Health information systems

Informed decision making

Health 2030 will strengthen generations of evidence and health information systems for policy making. I will prioritize innovation, driving action to enable rapid uptake for improved health services.

Digitization of health systems – m-health and e-health- will be the means to empower communities and individuals for the benefit of public health.

Health literacy, social science and operational research will receive increased emphasis to help people take informed decisions.
